    Alumni Mentorship Program

    Hello Fellow Alumni:

I hope this message reaches all of you doing well and enjoying this summertime.  Last year, Dean Bauman appointed me as an Associate Dean for Professional Development. It is a “dream” position for me as it allows me to work with our College of Pharmacy doctor of pharmacy students, graduate students, faculty and alums.

One very important initiative I have embraced is to create a mentoring network for our doctor of pharmacy students. Oftentimes, students do not realize the vast potential of employment pathways while some do. These students need someone to come alongside them to guide them and answer their questions. Further, a person as yourself can share your experience and wisdom to nurture the student. Thus, I am writing to ask if you would be willing to serve as a mentor to a student or a small group of students who are interested in what your expertise can provide.   Regardless of whether you reside in Oregon, New York, or in the Chicagoland area, we can make this happen.  All it needs is a commitment of some time on your part which you can work out with the individual student. Today’s communication abilities are limitless, e.g., email, SKYPE.

Our goal is to have our mentoring program “up and running” sometime this fall semester and no later than the beginning of the spring semester. If you're willing to participate, please complete the "mentor information form" by September 15th.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, let me know (nickp@uic.edu). Thank you for helping our doctor of pharmacy students “create their future.”

    Peace, Nick
